Shahnaaz Bismilla

Shahnaaz Bismilla was admitted to the Johannesburg Bar in December 2019 and practises at
the Victoria Mxenge Group of Advocates. She is a member of the Johannesburg Society of
Advocates.

Before her call to the Bar, Shahnaaz practised as an attorney for over 15 years, specialising in
employment law. She began her legal career as an associate to various judges of the Labour
Court before entering private practice at a specialised employment law firm. She also spent
time as an employment law manager at Deloitte in a consultancy environment before returning
to mainstream legal practice as an attorney.

Shahnaaz practises principally in labour and employment law, administrative law, public sector
discipline, pension funds law, commercial law and general litigation. Her practice includes
urgent applications, review proceedings, appeals, arbitration proceedings, contempt
applications, restraint of trade disputes, disciplinary matters, condonation and rescission
applications, legal opinions, pleadings, affidavits, heads of argument and written submissions.

She has appeared in the Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court, High Court and Constitutional
Court, as well as before the CCMA, bargaining councils, private arbitrations and other dispute–
resolution forums. She acts for and advises clients in both private and public sector disputes.
